Thanks for the input, folks -- identity crisis averted, from now on I'll be more chatty on my blog.
Starting with a confession: I've been distracted at work for the last half hour because have you ever hit "next blog" at the top right corner of a blogger blog? Don't do it unless you want your mind blown and your time sucked away!
I get that what's happening is a little piece of code generates a random blogspot.com address. But what's really happening is that you get whisked away into the webspace of strangers. Into intimate, detailed descriptions of the daily lives of total and complete strangers.
It's a lot like overhearing a conversation between two people on a train. They must know they're not the only ones who can hear what they're saying (read what they're blogging) but still they chat freely and loudly about their kids, jobs, latest medical procedure.
I find this unintentional intimacy horribly uncomfortable on trains. But are blogs really public conversations in the same way? We don't think of them like that. We think no one reads us except our friends and our friends' friends, who kind of know who we are anyway. But with this "next blog" thing, if your blog is public, it's really public.
I can't tell yet if I love this or hate it. It's certainly good at time sucking. And making me feel funny. When I should be working. Back to that now.

Oh crap! Okay, note to self, only try the "next blog" trick when at home, not while eating lunch at work. I know Blogger does their best to try to filter out some. . . less savory. . . blogs, but apparently they miss, sometimes. :(
